About Mighty:
At Mighty, we’re not a traditional accounting firm. Our ambition is to build the UK’s leading accountancy software for freelancers and micro-businesses, paired with an exceptional service experience. As an important member of our team, you won't just be managing accounts; you'll be helping to shape the future of our product and the way our clients do business.
The Role:
We are looking for a highly motivated Trainee Accountant to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to progress your accounting career in a fast-moving tech-led firm, learning from experienced accountants whilst gaining hands-on exposure to real client work from day one.
You’ll support our accountants and senior accountants in managing portfolios of limited company micro-businesses, mainly freelancers and contractors, and gradually own your own portfolio too. You’ll assist with the end-to-end production of work including bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year-end accounts (FRS 105), while developing your technical knowledge and confidence. You’ll also get involved in shaping our internal processes and our accounting platform as you grow.
Key Responsibilities:
-Client Support: Supporting accountants with client communications and helping to build strong, long-lasting client relationships.
-Client Management: As you progress, you will also start to manage your own portfolio and client relationships, with the support of the team.
-End-of-Year Account Support: Assisting in the preparation of end-of-year accounts, such as gathering client information and bank reconciliations.
-Payroll Support: You’ll support with processing payroll.
-VAT Return Support: You’ll review and file VAT returns, ensuring timely and correct submissions.
-Self-Assessment: You’ll assist with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns.
-Platform Development: You'll play a key role in providing feedback on how the platform works in practice for your tasks and suggest improvements.
-Process Improvements: You'll support with improvements to internal processes, workflows and client communications as the firm scales.
What We're Looking For:
-Qualifications: Studying towards AAT or ACCA.
-Experience: Some experience in accounting, finance or bookkeeping roles would be helpful.
-Technical: A strong interest in UK accounting, tax, payroll and VAT, with a desire to develop your technical knowledge.
-Communication: Clear and professional communication skills, with the confidence to ask questions and learn.
-Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using software and excited by the idea of working in a tech-focused accounting firm.
-UK-Based: A UK right to work status is required. This is a hybrid role, so you would be required to travel to Hitchin, Stevenage or Cambridge 1 - 2 times a week for in-person co-working. This location can be flexible dependent on your preference.
Why Join Mighty?
-Impact: This is a chance to have a real impact, not just on our company and your clients, but also on the future of accounting software for small businesses.
-Growth: We're a small, agile team, which means you'll have the opportunity to take on new challenges and grow your skills in different areas.
-Innovation: Work in a dynamic, startup environment where your ideas are valued and your contributions directly influence the product.
-Flexibility: We believe in a healthy work-life balance. We offer flexible working arrangements where needed, remote work and a supportive, collaborative culture.
-Benefits:
-Hybrid working with 1 - 2 days a week working in a paid co-working space with the rest of the time working from home
-25 days’ annual leave plus UK bank holidays
-Learning & development budget
-Paid for professional subscriptions (ACCA/ACA/AAT)
-Auto-enrolment pension
